The Psychiatric Mental Health Technician is responsible to provide
services which are supportive of the nursing care and members of
the interdisciplinary treatment team. The Psychiatric Mental Health
Technician makes frequent rounds in patient areas and documents
observations and behavioral needs/changes, medical symptoms and/or
compliance with the treatment plan and works under the direct
supervision of the Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse
and/or BHT Lead and BHT Supervisor
SUPERVISOR: Behavioral Health Technician Supervisor, Chief of Care
Coordination
SUPERVISES: None
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- Assists the nursing staff in the responsibility for day-to-day
processing of new admissions in triage in a timely and efficient
manner.
- Serves as a support for patients entering treatment in the
facility and observes patients and/or residents while they are
unpacking/packing their belongings to ensure no contraband is
present.
- Ensures patient valuables are properly documented and securely
stored in designated areas.
- Observes patient behavior, activity, maintains a visible
presence on the patients in and outside the campus, and circulates
throughout the treatment center facility.
- Monitors and listens to patients concerns and record their
condition.
- Gives medications and other treatments to patients, and follows
instructions from doctors and other medical professional.
- Assists patient's daily activities and ADLs, as needed.
- Recognizes and responds to crisis situations and provides
appropriate interventions.
- Acts as a liaison between patients and treatment team,
documenting pertinent observations to support treatment team and
assist the patient.
- Supervisor's patients while they are unpacking/packing their
belongings.
- Maintains orderly conduct of patients, both on property and
while on outings, ensuring the safety of all patients.
- Conducts searches of patient property and removes all
contraband.
- Observes and ensures patients are taking medication, as
prescribed.
- Observes urinalysis and/or breathalyzer exams.
- Reports and documents immediately any incidents to the Director
of Nursing, Director of Operations, Supervisor, Therapist, as
indicated by policy/protocol.
- Maintains confidentiality of patient information and
records.
- Transports patients to and from appointments, AA/NA meetings,
recreational activities, medical appointments when necessary, using
the company vehicle.
- Ensures personal items are returned during discharge process.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED required; BA/BS degree preferred.
- Experience in mental/behavioral health, chemical dependency,
addiction, and recovery, psychiatric, detox, and/or dual diagnosis
substance abuse programs, required.
- Current CPR Certification or can obtain through FHE Health
- Proof of Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) Training or can
obtain through FHE Health
- Valid Florida Driver's License required and must be at least 21
years old to drive company vehicle and authorized to be placed on
company auto insurance policy through approval from third party MVR
verification. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Must have excellent communication skills.
- Knowledge of CARF, DCF and Joint Commission Standards,
preferred.
- Knowledge of infection control and risk management,
preferred.
