UMMG Ambulatory Clinics is currently seeking a Certified Medical Assistant to work in our Deerfield Beach campus. The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) shall perform multi-skilled tasks to assist the medical providers. The MA shall assist patients healthcare management and clinical procedures in a culturally competent manner utilizing evidence-based standards of quality, safety, and service. The MA provides hands-on care to patients, while adhering to regulatory requirements, standards of care, and institutional policies and procedures, under the direct supervision and responsibility of a licensed physician. The MA shall abide to ethical and legal standards of professional practice, recognize and respond to emergencies, and demonstrate professional characteristics.

The MA provides care within the philosophy, mission, and objectives as well as within the policies and procedures of the Department of Nursing and the University of Miami. As a professional, monitors the quality of care provided and nurtures a compassionate environment. The MA works directly with the Nurse Manager/Nurse Supervisor and/or Charge Nurse to ensure a safe delivery of care that supports the UHealth mission.

    • Establishes Trusting Relationships by creating and maintaining a conducive climate for healing by being present to the patient and family, identifying and managing discomforts; providing emotional support.
    • Adapts to changing work demands and environment.
    • Monitors safety and compliance to standards and policies by adhering to University of Miami and unit-level policies and procedures in order to safeguard the University of Miami assets.

      COVID-19 Testing Site Specific:

      • Collects COVID-19 specimen while wearing protective gear
      • Perform vaccine injections, medical treatments, and lab routine tests
      • Cleans and prepares treatment room for patients usage
      • Assist practitioner with patients physical examinations or procedures
      • Schedules patients for tests and completes required forms for laboratory work.
      • Maintains accurate and complete patient records and documentation.
      • Escorts and transport patients to various hospital locations.
      • Adheres to the University of Miami and State governed policies and regulations to safeguard patients, personnel, and the University of Miami assets.

        Organization and Work Role Functions

        • Priorities and integrates multiple requests and work expectations by setting priorities, performing tasks appropriately, and seeking assistance as needed.
        • Contributes to team building through participation in unit programs and meetings.
        • Contributes to positive morale, using constructive and effective conflict resolution skills.
        • Learns and utilizes the available technology resources for communication, documentation, and locating pertinent information regarding clinical situations, diagnosis, and treatments.
        • Attains educational knowledge and competence that reflects current clinical practice skills.
        • Demonstrates commitment to lifelong learning and is responsible for his/her own professional development and maintenance of knowledge regarding the patient population and assignments.
        • Communicates clearly and in a timely manner to patient and family, as well as the appropriate team members, ensuring compliance with all regulatory guidelines (i.e., HIPAA). Uses best practices for transition of patient care.
        • Meets diverse communication needs of patients with Limited English Proficiency (LEP).

          Professional Practice

          • Performs professionally all clinical practice skills within standards and guidelines, relevant statues, rules, and regulations.
          • Accepts and provides focused constructive feedback and guidance with loving kindness in a manner that provides growth and maintains self-esteem.
          • Incorporates protocols and standards of care into daily practice.

            Assists with physical examinations by preparing treatment/exam room with proper supplies, instruments, and materials, as directed by the physician. Prepares patients for physicians care with basic instruction and information regarding examination procedures. Performs routine laboratory tests. Takes vital signs and documents in patients medical record. Observes and reports patients signs or symptoms or changes in signs or symptoms. Administers allowable medication (See list) as directed by the physician. Assists in patient care activities such as walking. Escorts and transports patients to various hospital locations. Cleans and/or sterilizes medical instruments while observing principles of sterile technique. Schedules patients for tests and completes required forms for laboratory work. Maintains accurate and complete patient records and documentation. Orders, stocks, and inventories supplies, and assists in performing clerical duties. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.


            High school diploma or equivalent

            Certification and Licensing:

            Certified Medical Assistant by the AAMA, NHA or Registered is required

            Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers Certification

            HIV Certification is required


            No previous experience required
